Storybook Favorites
Here are several storybooks from this class in the past that I found interesting! Something about each of these appealed to me, whether that includes the title, the graphics, or the content itself. I look forward to these posts aiding my own creativity!
Immediately, this storybook presents a captivating image. The image shown below greets the visitor of the blog, sending simultaneous message of beauty and mystery. The impressive images continue throughout the entire storybook. Though I found myself interested in the story, the graphics captured my attention and developed my imagination more than any other component. These images are displayed at the top of each section of the storybook, inviting the reader to continue. I think this is a valuable technique to use in my own storybook for several reasons. First, appropriate use of images can make potential viewers more interested in the story. Should the initial design or layout of the storybook lack creativity and power, the story may lose some of its intended effect. Additionally, the proper images can actually develop the storyline if used appropriately. They can shape the perspective of the observer. This storybook has demonstrated the value of creative and attractive images.
I enjoyed the pure creativity of this storybook. Though it tells the tale of a group of "campers," the method is slightly untraditional. While other blogs that I viewed utilized a traditional narrative to tell their story, this storybook enacted diary entries. These individual entries provide the perspectives of the campers, enabling different points of view in an original method for story telling. The reader still learns of an entire week of camp experiences, but through the separate lenses of the campers as opposed to a single, streamlined narrative. I will look to utilize such creativity in my own storybook!
Several things from this storybook stood out to me. First, I enjoyed the incorporation of modern phenomena into a classic tale. The idea of Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf communicating through social media adds humor and modern flavor to the original story. The attempt at turning Cupid and Psyche's story into a modern disagreement did not nearly do justice to the original, but the same idea of technological incorporation is expressed in this section of the storybook. Despite these creativities, I will honestly say that one of my favorite parts about this storybook is very simple: the title. I found it catchy and entertaining, hinting at endless possibilities of modern romance. This showed me the importance of establishing an effective title in setting the tone for the remainder of the storybook.
